Men's Track and Field Amelia Shaw

Spartans Split Between Mule Relays & Cougar Classic

The Missouri Baptist University women's and men's track and field teams split this past weekend (April 11-12) to compete in the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays and the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougar Classic. 

All of the competing Spartans represented Missouri Baptist well. A few performances were especially notable. 

Mule Relays 

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Seven Spartans participated in the Mule Relays on Friday. 

Unsurprisingly, Mia Duncan was one of the top five finishers in the 1500 m, landing at five out of 45, with a time of 4:45.40. 

Fellow senior Adrienne Rockette competed well in the 800 m, taking ninth place out of 48 and recording a time of 2:20.56.

Freshman Julia Whorton hit a personal record of 18:47.04 in the 5000 m, shaving over a minute off of her previous record. 

On the men's side, junior Nick Fehr also set a PR of 4:05.88 in the 1500 (prev. 4.09.14). Wyatt Claiborne hit a PR in the same event, recording a time of 4:06.8 (prev. 4:09.06). 

Cougar Classic 

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. Thirty five members of Women's and Men's Track and Field competed in the Cougar Classic on Saturday. 

Sophomore Angela Ward competed in the 1500 m for the first time in her collegiate career, and she finished in ninth place out of 28 with an impressive time of 4:55.59. 

Junior Lillian Harris set a new PR in the same event, recording a time of 5:33.52, which is about four seconds faster than her previous record set in 2024. Camrin Watkins also improved on her time, finishing with a 5:23.47 (prev. 5:24.24). 

A 4x400 relay team composed of Duncan, Rockette, Ward, and Julianne Hansen took third place (4:11.18).

Dual-sport athlete Mariana Cubero increased her Triple Jump distance PR by .23 m, for a 9.6 m. Also, senior Brianna Sansoucie set a PR of 1:12.59 in the 400 H, shaving about four seconds off her previous record set in 2024.

Sophomore Emma Lawson represented MBU well in the field events. She took tenth place out of 23 in the Javelin Throw, setting a new PR of 37.23 (prev. 36.79). 

For the men, dual-athlete Cortlen Johnson shined in the 100 m, finishing in fifth place out of 24, with a time of 10.98.

Fellow freshman Jackie Wilson set a PR in the 200 m with 22.98, shaving about 30 seconds off hiss previous time. 

In the 1500, Alex Shields (4:09.39) improved from the last time he ran in the event at St. Louis University (4:09.60). Caedmon Cook did the same, recording a 4:23.61 at SIUE and a 4:29.55 at SLU. 

Freshman Ian Moore improved in the 3000 m by about five seconds, recording a time of 9:52.59. Junior Zachary Klug also set a PR of 10:59.5 in the same event, shaving about a whole minute off his last PR. 

Freshman Sam Woodson finished the 110 H in 16.29, (prev. 18.72). Fellow freshman Lucas Sa also improved on his hurdles, specifically in the 400 H. He finished in 56.22 (prev. 56.63). 

In the Discus, Jeffrey Stuart earned ninth place out of 27, hitting 42.7 m and a PR (prev. 37.52 m).

Warren Gann and Jordan Notz broke PRs in this event as well. Gann improved from 40.42 m to 41.94 m, and Notz improved from 34.1 m to 35.8 m. 

MBU Track and Field will compete again on Thursday (April 17) through Saturday (April 19) in the Kansas Relays, hosted by Kansas University.
