MBU Track & Field Competes at PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Missouri Baptist University track and field teams competed Friday and Saturday at the Bellarmine University PNC Classic, turning in several solid performances against a field that featured NCAA Division I programs.

On the women's side, MBU posted several solid performances across the sprints, middle-distance, distance, and field events.

In the sprints, TaMari Allen led the Spartans in the 60 meters, placing seventh overall with a time of 8.12 seconds. In the 200 meters, Rosario Garro Cortes finished 15th with a time of 27.44, while Julianne Hansen followed in 17th at 27.98. Cortes also competed in the 400 meters, recording a ninth-place finish in 1:00.80, with Hansen placing 19th in 1:05.00.

Missouri Baptist saw multiple competitors in the 800 meters, led by Adrienne Rockette's 11th-place finish in 2:25.57. Mattie Noyes placed 16th with a time of 2:29.23, while Tabitha Bryant finished 27th in 2:41.82.

In the mile, Camrin Watkins paced the Spartans with a 25th-place finish, crossing the line in 5:33.86.

The Spartans were strong in the distance events, highlighted by Isabella Aimonette's third-place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:05.21. Alyssa Collins followed in 23rd at 11:17.38, while Haley Hernandez placed 25th in 11:23.46.

In the hurdles, Carly Roussin recorded a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a 9.80.

MBU also saw success in the field events, as Roussin placed eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.45 meters. She added a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a best mark of 4.96 meters. Allen also competed in the long jump, placing 12th with a mark of 4.55 meters.

The men also turned in several strong performances across the sprints, distance events, and field competitions.

In the sprints, Elias Newberry led the Spartans in the 60 meters, finishing 20th overall with a time of 7.38 seconds. Malakai Mays followed in 27th at 7.45, while Canaan Patterson placed 28th in 7.51.

In the 200 meters, Brandin Dodd paced Missouri Baptist with an eighth-place finish, clocking a 22.75. Brett Drye followed in 13th at 23.14, while Newberry and Lucas Cristo Sa finished 19th and 20th, respectively, with times of 24.32 and 24.38.

In the 400 meters, Josiah Heras led the way by placing 20th overall in 53.47 seconds. Sa followed close behind in 23rd at 53.77, and Jerome Williams rounded out the group in 25th with a time of 57.51.

In the middle-distance events, Alex Shields recorded a top-10 finish in the 800 meters, placing ninth with a time of 1:56.48. Samuel Bland also competed in the event, finishing 28th overall in 2:05.29.

The Spartans showed depth in the mile, led by David Fletcher's 19th-place finish in 4:21.49. Grant Patten placed 36th in 4:26.84, followed by Clayton Schneider (42nd, 4:28.67), Wyatt Claiborne (45th, 4:30.56), Ethan Bliss (52nd, 4:35.60), Ian Moore (58th, 4:48.44), and Dylan Coleman (60th, 4:52.75).

Missouri Baptist also competed in the distance races, with Nick Fehr finishing 23rd in the 3,000 meters at 8:52.07, followed closely by Steven Aguilar in 26th at 8:52.96. In the 5,000 meters, Caedmon Cook and Brandon Etheridge posted back-to-back finishes, placing sixth and seventh with times of 16:07.74 and 16:14.29, respectively.

In the hurdles, James Kelly recorded a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.70.

The Spartans picked up key performances in the field events, led by Dodd's sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters. Kelly also competed in the event, placing eighth with a mark of 1.75 meters. In the long jump, Brett Drye earned a podium finish by placing third with a best mark of 6.80 meters, while Kelly finished seventh at 6.37 meters and Jerome Williams placed 12th with a jump of 5.68 meters. Patterson also represented Missouri Baptist in the triple jump, placing fourth with a mark of 11.20 meters.

MBU Track & Field continues its season on Friday, Jan. 30, at the Principia College Relays in Elsah, Ill.
