Spartan Softball Looks to Extend Seven Game Win Streak

The No. 15 Missouri Baptist University softball team will kick off conference play this weekend in a double header at Baker University (Kan.). Game times are set for Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The Spartans are riding in hot off a seven-game win streak, including No. 21 Hope International University (Calif.), No. 18 St. Thomas University (Fla.) and No. 5 Marian University (Ind.).

Six of these wins were collected at the Space Coast Games in Melbourne, Fla. last week, boosting their season record to 14-5.

Two of the team's heavy-hitters, Alohilani Bursey and Kaylie Brake, earned Heart of America Athletic Conference honors Monday, March 9.

Bursey, a junior outfielder, was named Player of the Week after recording a .632 batting average with 14 RBI over the week.

Brake, a sophomore pitcher, received Pitcher of the Week for a three complete-game series with a 0.98 earned run average.

The Baker Wildcats hold a 12-7 record after back-to-back wins over the University of Saint Mary. Their starting pitcher, Kira Baker, was awarded Pitcher of the Week on March 2, after a no-hitter against No. 11 Midland University.

Last season, Baker went 17-7 in conference play to rank No. 4 in Heart standings.

Both games can be watched on Urban Edge Network. Live stats will be available on the Missouri Baptist Spartans mobile app or mbuspartans.com
