Second Quarter Sinks Women’s Lacrosse at No. 2 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – No. 9 Missouri Baptist University women's lacrosse fell 19-6 on the road at No. 2 University of the Cumberlands on Monday afternoon.

The Spartans were led by three goals from Delaney Pechnik and a pair from Skyler Morrissey.

Pechnik scored the first goal of the game at 11:50 in the first quarter and won the ensuing draw control. Koral Hadac forced a turnover, which the Patriots turned into the equalizer off the stick of Emma Rittman.

Morrissey restored MBU's lead at 9:34, assisted by Sophia Rose, before Cumberlands answered 30 seconds later with a goal from Lenora DeVries to kick off a 4-0 run to end the first quarter.

Pechnik ended the run at 14:32 in the second quarter with another tally off a pass from Rose. Cumberlands, however, pressed the pedal down and outscored MBU 10-2 to close the half up 15-4.

Morrissey and Rose each scored in the third quarter to pull the score to 18-6. Ashlee Baker netted the final goal of the game with 35 seconds remaining in the third, ahead of a scoreless fourth quarter.

The Spartan road trip concludes on Wednesday, March 18, at (RV) Georgetown College (Ky.). The opening draw control is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CDT) in Georgetown, Ky.
