Kaylie Brake was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 13. Brake picked up four wins and two saves across six games to earn the second honor of her career.
Brake, a sophomore transfer from Lakeland Community College, recorded a 0.65 ERA over 21 innings, leading No. 10 Missouri Baptist University to doubleheader sweeps over Graceland University, Park University, and No. 25 Benedictine College. The Spartans improved to 27-7 overall and lead the Heart of America Athletic Conference at 14-2.
In three starts and two complete games, Brake struck out eight batters and allowed only two runs on 16 hits. She also recorded two saves after preserving narrow leads against Graceland and Benedictine in the final innings.
Brake is 17-3 on the season, with three shutouts, two saves, and 14 complete games. She also leads the team with an impressive 2.22 ERA.
Brake showcased her versatility with an equally solid performance on the plate. In nine at-bats, she notched three hits and an RBI for a .400 on-base percentage (OBP) and .444 slugging percentage (SLG).
The Spartans look to extend their five-game winning streak at Peru State College on Monday, April 13, in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
