OTTAWA, KAN. — Missouri Baptist University women's lacrosse delivered a dominant road performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Ottawa University 20-6 to improve to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
The Spartans set the tone early, controlling possession and building a steady lead through the first half before pulling away with a strong second-half effort. Missouri Baptist outscored Ottawa in three of four periods and never trailed in the contest.
A balanced offensive attack fueled the Spartans, with multiple players contributing to the scoring outburst. Delaney Pechnik led the way with four goals and two assists, while Marissa Oldham added five goals to pace the offense. Madison Terrell contributed three goals, and Sophia Rose finished with a multi-goal performance as well. Jahyghness Ward chipped in two goals, while Ella Isgrigg and Skyler Morrissey each added an assist each.
Morrissey also facilitated the offense, recording three goals, while Terrell and Pechnik each contributed multiple assists to keep the attack flowing.
Missouri Baptist was efficient in key situations, converting all six of its free-position opportunities. The Spartans also controlled the tempo with strong possession play and finished with a solid edge in draw controls.
Defensively, Missouri Baptist limited Ottawa's opportunities and forced turnovers throughout the game. The Spartans' goalkeeper unit, Rachel Livak and Octavia Bookman, combined for 14 saves, helping hold Ottawa to just six goals on the day.
With the win, Missouri Baptist continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
