A week and a half into their season, the MBU men's volleyball team sits at the .500 mark, with a 3-3 record.
After three-game wins over both MAMVIC East rival Missouri Valley College and non-conference opponent California Baptist University, the Spartans went just 1-3 at Lindenwood University's Tournament this weekend.
The Spartans picked up their first loss to Cardinal Stritch University on Friday afternoon. Missouri Baptist rallied from down 2-0 (36-38, 26-30), to take convincingly take games three and four (30-21, 30-17) and force a game five. CSU would prevail though, winning game five 15-11.
MBU bounced back from the marathon match to lose yet again in five games. MBU would win games one and three, but Hope International University won the match (27-30, 30-26, 28-30, 30-28, 15-9).
The Spartans started Saturday with an early morning walk past Holy Names College. The Spartans owned the match 30-16, 30-22, 30-26. Saint Ambrose University bested the Spartans in their final match of the tournament in a four game victory (30-24, 27-30, 30-28, 30-23).Â

Matt Mahoney led the Spartans with 88 kills and 18 blocks, and 8 aces for the tournament. Senior setter
Josh Haegele had 190 assists.
Up next for MBU, the Spartans will get another chance at Cardinal Stritch University, when they host CSU on Friday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m.
