Des Moines, Iowa- The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team dominated on the road against conference foe Grand View University. The team won in straight sets 25-16, 25-20 and 29-27.
After suffering two straight losses, the Spartans had another tough test against the newly #10 ranked Vikings. The score was even throughout the first set, as both teams battled to a 10-10 tie. Missouri Baptist took over the rest of the set going on a 15-6 run for the win. The team had 13 kills to only the Vikings seven.
The second set continued to be all Missouri Baptist. The team continued to hold a lead until Grand View tied the game up at 17-17. The Spartans earned an 18-17 lead after Gustavo Cintron got a kill, one of his 10 for the game. MBU rallied around the momentum and took the second set 25-20.
The most exciting set of the evening happened in the third. The Spartans were looking to close out the match and knock off another ranked team. It was the Vikings who were able to fend off Missouri Baptist for most of the set. Grand View led 23-24, looking to get force another set. Jordan Pinto with a hitting percentage of .600 for the match and seven kills evened the score at 24-24 and Gustavo Cintron added a service ace to close it out for the 29-27 win.
Other players that played extremely well included Jonathan Roldan with 13 kills. Robert Esser added 35 assists and Danny Traylor led the team with six digs. The Spartans won every statistic line offensively and defensively.
The team plays tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. as they head on the road to #6 ranked Graceland University in a rematch from the first game of the season in which the Spartans won in four sets.
