Davenport, Iowa. - The #4 ranked Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team suffered their third loss against #1 ranked St. Ambrose, falling 24-26, 27-25, 18-25 and 22-25.
The Bees continued to take control of the Spartans early in the first set. St. Ambrose jumped out to a 15-17 lead, but Missouri Baptist tied the game up at 23-23, thanks in part to a St. Ambrose error. However, the Bees fended off the Spartans for the first set win. The Spartans had a kill advantage of 12-11.
The Spartans dominated most of the second set, until the Bees tied the match up at 21-21. Until junior Gustavo Cintron who had a team high 17 kills, tied the game up at 22-22 with a great play. The Spartans won the second set on another St. Ambrose error, tying the match up at 1-1. The team had 17 kills and just three errors in their only set win.
St. Ambrose dominated the third set, holding a lead for the entire game, winning 18-25. The Spartans were able to tie the game up in the fourth set 4-4, but the Bees went on a 1-7 run to take a commanding lead. St. Ambrose didn't look back, winning the set and the match.
Jonathan Roldan was second behind Cintron in kills with 12. Danny Traylor led the team with nine digs and Robert Esser chipped in 41 assists. Dan Dowjotas led the way for the Bees with a game high 22 kills. Also, having a strong game was Kyle Schwetz with 14 kills.
The Spartans fall to 9-5 on the year, but will look to rebound tomorrow against Robert Morris College at 11:00 a.m.
