SPARTANS SPLIT FIRST TWO GAMES AT LINDENWOOD

St. Charles, Mo. - On the first day of the Lindenwood Tournament the Spartans men's volleyball team defeated Warner University for the second day in a row, but fell to St. Ambrose in game two.

In the first game against the Warner Royals, the first set was a busy one. Both teams could never finish the other off. Warner was able to take down the Spartans in the first set with a 28-30 win.

The Spartans took control of the second set winning 25-17. The all important third set, just like the day before went to the Spartans again. The team jumped out early and didn't look back dominating to a 25-18 win.

The team was able to finish off the Royals in the fourth and final set 25-19, starting off 1-0 in the Lindenwood Tournament. MBU's Gustavo Cintron led the way with an astounding 18 kills and .394 hitting percentage. The teams' hitting percentage in the match was .347.

Up next, was a rematch against #1 ranked St. Ambrose University. In their previous meeting held at Missouri Baptist, the Bees took down the Spartans in four sets. Missouri Baptist was looking to even the score, as the team knew it could win.

In the first set, things started out well for the Spartans. The team came out playing with a lot of passion, knowing how big of a game this was. The Spartans were able to fend off the Bees for the 27-25 win. However, St. Ambrose came back and took care of business in the second set winning 17-25.

Missouri Baptist knew they had to have the third set, for the advantage. It was a great set for both teams, as they continued to match each other point for point. The Bees were able to pull away from MBU winning 22-25, taking a one game advantage.

The Spartans did what they could in the fourth set, but St. Ambrose was able to take down Missouri Baptist for the second time this year, winning the final set 18-25. Kevin Knight had a great game for MBU with 11 kills and one block. Gustavo Cintron dominated again leading the team with 13 kills.

The teams' record falls to 6-4, but will look to finish strong in the Lindenwood Tournament when they play tomorrow against Cardinal Stritch at 11:30 a.m. and Rust College at 5:30 p.m.
