St. Charles, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team picked up two key wins over Cardinal Stritch and Rust College in the final day of the Lindenwood Tournament.
In the first game, the Spartans took on a Wolves team that was looking for revenge, when Missouri Baptist defeated Cardinal Stritch in four sets. In the first set, the Spartans took down the Wolves with a 25-20 win. The second set, was the most exciting one of the day. Both teams battled, with the Spartans looking to grab a two game advantage. Missouri Baptist was able to take control late for the 29-27 win.
The final set, MBU was able to close the books on the match, with a stellar 25-22 performance win.
Gustavo Cintron is having himself a tournament. The junior had 11 kills, 2 blocks and a .522 hitting percentage.
Zach Zeris came alive with 11 kills, four blocks and a phenomenal .833 hitting percentage.
Sam Platt chipped in nine kills and
Robert Esser had 40 assists which led to a .487 team kill percentage.
In the second game of the day, the Spartans dominated Rust College in three straight sets, winning 25-15, 25-18 and 25-8. In the first set, the Spartans used their size advantage over Rust to keep the Bearcats on their heels. The team jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back winning easily. The team had 15 kills in the first set.
In the second set, Missouri Baptist continued jumping out to early leads and fended off Rust for the seven point win. The third set, was all Spartans as they closed out Rust in quick fashion, winning the match by 17.
Steve Greaves led the way with 18 kills and a .818 hitting percentage.
Abel Castillo added 36 assists.
The teams' record moves to 8-4 on the year and will host Hannibal-LaGrange University on February 7
th at 7:00 p.m.
