St. Louis, Mo. - The women's basketball team had a strong first half, earning their way to just a two point deficit. However, the team shot 21% from the field in the second half, falling 63-47 to Williams Baptist.
In the first 10 minutes of the half, Williams Baptist jumped out to a 23-14 lead. The Spartans continued to cut down the Lady Eagle lead, throughout the final minutes. MBU's Madeline Nesbit made a two point basket to cap a 14-7 run to make it 30-28, Lady Eagles at the half.
The Spartans shot 40% from the field, to Williams Baptist 38%. It was a strong showing by the team to battle back into the game.
The Lady Eagles took over in the second half, stretching their lead to 43-32 after a two point basket made by Kim Sutterfield. Missouri Baptist made just seven shots, getting only 19 second half points, for the tough loss.
Andrea Seabaugh led the Spartans with 14 points and five rebounds. Janelle Hensold added nine points and Mandy Kirby knocked in eight. The Lady Eagles had three players in double figures led by Kim Sutterfield with 14 points. Forward Becky Caldwell had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Shephard chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
The teams' record falls to 6-17 on the year, but has a rematch against Harris-Stowe State University at home on February 9th at 5:30 p.m.
