COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team dropped its second game this week to the Columbia Cougars 92-75. The Spartans move to 6-12 on the season and 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference.
MBU shot the ball well from the field hitting 40 percent but Columbia just shot better making 52 percent of their shots. Everything the Spartans did, the Cougars had an answer for.
The Cougars jumped out to the early lead and left MBU fighting from the behind the whole game. Missouri Baptist only held two leads in the game and they both were only by one point and both came before the 12 minute mark in the first half.
Columbia worked out to a 15 point lead, 40-25, with just over four minutes remaining in the half before the Spartans went on a little run to close the gap at eight at the half, 43-35.
In the second half, the Cougars were just too much for MBU to handle. Columbia had a double digit lead for the rest of the game and went on to defeat the Spartans 92-75.
Kristyne Smyth led the scoring for MBU with 16 points and added four assists. Iesha McDaniel had 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman Taylor Klingelhoefer added 11 points.
The Spartans look to get above .500 in the AMC as they come home Saturday afternoon to take on Williams Baptist College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
