ST.LOUIS, MO – The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team bounced back from their loss to Harris-Stowe on Thursday with a blowout victory against the Benedictine-Springfield Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, 79-49.
The Spartans controlled the pace of the game Saturday afternoon from the outset and never let up. MBU shot 40 percent from the field and held the Bulldogs to just 26 percent shooting.
The Spartans started the game on a 10-2 run that was ended by a pair of three's by Lucille Adams and Alexandria Barnett. This cut the Spartan lead down to just two at the 14:58 mark of the first half, but that is as close as the Bulldogs got.
The Spartans went on a 27-6 tear after that and never looked back. MBU caused nine turnovers during the run and extended their lead to 23 points at the 3:23 mark, their biggest lead of the half. MBU ended the half with a 45-24 lead.
The Spartans continued their domination in the second half. MBU outscored the bulldogs 34-25 and breezed to a 79-49 victory.
The Spartans had four players with double digit scoring on the night. Senior Lauren Taylor led the team with 20 points and was perfect from the charity stripe. Junior Kristyne Smyth had 19 points and drained four from beyond the arc. Freshman Jasmine Jackson and senior Mandy Kirby both ended the night with 11 points.
The Bulldogs were led by Brittany Rush who had 10 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double on the night. Alexandria Barnett led in scoring with 16 points.
The Spartans improved to 10-15 overall and 7-6 in the AMC. MBU will be back in action on Tuesday when they visit Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
