ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Spartan guard Taylor Klingelhoefer posted a career-high 27 points and was 10-25 from the floor on Wednesday evening against Olivet Nazarene. A high-flying perimeter game by the Tigers was the difference, however, in a 115-84 loss on the road.
Missouri Baptist (0-2) held true to its game plan in the first half, but could not hold the shooters of Olivet Nazarene off for the entirety of the contest. The Tigers shot just over 37 percent from three-point range in the second half, which accounted for 39 points alone.
In the first half, Missouri Baptist kept the Tiger shooters in check early. The Spartans began the game with a 10-3 run, but ended the first 20 minutes down 43-39.
Throughout the game, the Spartans had to deal with a consistent backcourt press from Olivet Nazarene. This ball pressure accounted for 39 MBU turnovers, which set a new Missouri Baptist record. The previous high was 37 given-up to Illinois Wesleyan on Dec. 1, 2009.
The Spartans shot an impressive 43 percent in the game and finished 34-79 from the floor as a team. Klingelhoefer led both teams with 27 points. She also posted a team-high three steals and 34 minutes of court time. Angela Talley was the only other player for MBU who finished in double digits (18 points).
Four players finished in double-figures for Olivet Nazarene. Ally Giampapa and Abbey Hengesbach led the way for the Tigers. The two both finished with 20 points while Gianpapa led all scorers from three-point range with 18 points. Kayla Krassman and Kaira Barnes also finished in double digits.
Missouri Baptist will now have a week to prepare for another road test as the team will head to Lindenwood University (Mo.) on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
