ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist women's basketball dug itself a 17-point hole at halftime to the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats and were never able to fully recover in a 72-60 loss on the road in Canton, Mo.
Missouri Baptist (1-5, 1-1 AMC) dropped its fifth game, and second consecutive to Culver-Stockton after losing the battle under the boards in Tuesday evening's contest. The Spartans were out-rebounded by 16 on the night as the team struggled to find its footing.
The Spartans recorded five blocks in the game, four of which came from leading scorer Morgan Settle. The senior from Moorsville, Ind., ended the game with 11 points, four blocked shots and four rebounds as she led MBU on the night. Settle ended the night 4-8 from the floor.
Jerica Hawkins and Aimee Iverson rounded-out the Spartans that ended in double-digit point totals. Iverson and Hawkins combined for 21 points on the night.
The Wildcats had just two finish in double figures (Hannah Thompson, Randi Lee Plunkett), but a balanced scoring attack led to the win. Jasmine Mathews, Lara Kubinski, TJ Hart and Shelsey Stanley all finished with nine points as the team shot 42 percent from the floor.
The Spartans has a great night from three-point range, however. The team finished 4-9 from downtown (44 percent) and finished the game with its highest free throw percentage of the season with 82 percent.
With the loss, Missouri Baptist dropped to 1-5 on the year and will now get set for an American Midwest Conference tilt with Williams Baptist College on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
