SPARTANS STOPPED BY EAGLES IN AMC ACTION

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist women's basketball came back from a halftime deficit to tie the game with Williams Baptist College with under five minutes to play, but was unable to complete the comeback in a 69-65 loss in Walnut Ridge, Ark., on Thursday evening.

Missouri Baptist (1-6, 1-2 AMC) began the first leg of a two-night American Midwest Conference road trip looking to start-off on the right foot, but the Eagles shooting was just too good. Williams Baptist shot 49 percent from the floor and recorded its second conference victory of the season after a road victory against Park University on November 20.

Meagan Goza led the attack for the Eagles on the night. The senior recorded 16 points in the first half, on her way to 26 on the night, in the victory.

Missouri Baptist was down by 13 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, but came back with a 12-2 run in the closing minutes to cut the deficit to three. Williams Baptist, however, finished the half with a five-point lead.

The Spartans shot just under 38 percent in the first half, which proved to be the difference. MBU, however, won the battle under the boards and out-rebounded the Eagles 36-32.

Taylor Klingelhoefer led Missouri Baptist on the night. The junior from O'Fallon, Ill. finished her evening with 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half. She also swiped three steals and went 3-5 from three-point land in the game.

The Spartans will have just 24 hours to shake-off the loss as the team will head to Lyon College in a rare Friday night conference showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Batesville, Ark.
