JASMINE JACKSON STUFFS STAT SHEET IN 74-40 WIN OVER STEPHENS

ST. LOUIS – Jasmine Jackson paced the Missouri Baptist women's basketball team to a 74-40 victory over Stephens College, tonight. The Spartans improved to 8-14 on the season and 6-8 in American Midwest Conference play.

 

Missouri Baptist shot a season-high 50 percent (30-of-59) from the field, which allowed them to take a season-low four three-point attempts. The Spartans pulled down 48 rebounds, including 15 in the offensive zone.

Stephens (0-20, 0-14 AMC) shot just 28 percent (17-for-59) from the floor. The Stars had 33 rebounds, with 14 coming in the offensive zone.

Jasmine Jackson stuffed the stat sheet for the Spartans. She co-led MBU with a career-high 18 points, making 9-of-12 shots from the floor. She led the team with seven rebounds, three in the offensive zone. She also led the Spartans with a career-high six steals.

Kristyne Smyth co-lead with Spartans with 18 points, hitting 7-of-13 attempts from the field. She made all three free throw attempts. Smyth pulled down four rebounds, dished out two assists, and had two steals.

Angela Talley scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. She and Danna Jenkins co-led the team with four assists.

Missouri Baptist wasted no time taking control of the contest, as the Spartans scored the first 24 points over the first eight minutes of play.

The Spartans maintained a 20-point cushion the remainder of the half and took a 41-18 lead into the halftime break.

Jackson led the Spartans with 12 points on 6-of-8 from the floor. Morgan Settle led the Spartans with four rebounds in the half, while Angela Talley dished out four assists.

In the second half, the Spartans quickly pushed its lead to 30 points. With 2:38 left in the game, Talley scooped in a layup to give the Spartans the biggest of the game, 70-32.

The Spartans ended the game with a 74-40 victory, the eighth win of the season.

The team shot an impressive 54 percent from the floor, sinking 13-of-24 shots. Danna Jenkins had six points in the half on 3-of-6 shooting from the field, and Hayley Parker scored five points on 1-of-4 shooting, including 3-of-5 from the charity stripe.

Missouri Baptist will attempt to win its third-straight when they travel to Henderson, Tenn. to take on No. 2 Freed-Hardeman. The Lady Lions are a perfect 23-0 in 2013-14.
