ELDERS SNAGS 11 REBOUNDS AS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS, 67-58

ST. LOUIS – After being stunned in the first matchup of the season, the Missouri Baptist women's basketball team returned the favor, beating Harris-Stowe, 67-58.

Missouri Baptist (9-18, 7-12 AMC) shot 39 percent from the field in the contest, making 25-of-65 shots. The Spartans hit 16-of-18 attempts from the free throw line. Missouri Baptist won the rebounding battle, 45-34, with 22 boards coming in the offensive zone. The Spartans were also very giving, as they dished out 19 assists as a team.

Harris-Stowe (4-24, 2-18 AMC) shot 35 percent from the field in the contest, hitting 20-of-58 from the floor. The Hornets were lights out from the charity stripe, making 13-of-14.

Haley Elders had a big day in her return after an injury. She led the Spartans with 11 rebounds, including four in the offensive end. Elders also hit 3-of-7 shots from the field and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe en route to eight points.

Kristyne Smyth netted a team-high 17 points. She hit 5-of-10 shots from the field, but made just 1-of-5 from deep range. Smyth sank all six free throw shots and had four assists.

Jasmine Jackson had 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Jackson had four defensive rebounds in the contest.

Freshman Kennedy Smith led MBU with six assists. She also scored eight points and had three rebounds.

The Spartans led 31-28 after the first 20 minutes of play. The Hornets held a four point led just seven minutes into the contest, but the Spartans were able to maintain control of the contest for the remainder of the half.

Missouri Baptist shot 33 percent from the field in the first half, making 12-of-36 from the floor. HSSU made 11-of-28 shots from the floor in the half, for a success rate of 39 percent.

The Spartans outscored Harris-Stowe 36-30 in the second half, securing the 67-58 victory.

MBU shot 45 percent from the floor in the half, making 13-of-29 shots from the field. The Spartans were able to hit their free throws when called to the line, as they hit 10-of-12 in the second half.
