HAWKS DEAL SPARTANS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] After a strong start the Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team was dealt a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 20-25) loss to NCAA DII Quincy University.

The Spartans (2-1, 1-0 AMC) controlled the game right away. However as the Hawks clawed their way back into the game, they tied the score at 16 and created a four point lead. Able to stop the bleeding MBU found their way back into the game with a neck and neck fight to the finish with Missouri Baptist on top 25-23.

MBU jumped out to a quick lead and held the momentum from the previous set, but Quincy pushed back to take a one point lead before a Spartan timeout was called. After the time out ensued a back and forth battle between the teams, until Quincy captured a two point lead and Missouri Baptist trailed for the remainder of the set.

After a rough patch, the Spartans began to find their rhythm late in the third set. Able to tie the game at 10, Missouri Baptist fought to keep the score close, but the Hawks attacked with everything they had and delt MBU with a 25-22 set loss.

Missouri Baptist kept the score within two points throughout a majority of the fourth set. Still yet, the Hawks created a five point deficit for the Spartans that could not be cut into.

Mico Janicijevic and Chris Flood combined for 29 kills on the outside. In the middle, Shane Welchcontinued to impress with a hitting percentage of .364 and finished the night with six kills on eleven attempts. Junior Sean Benedict posted a career high of 10 digs on the night.

Missouri Baptist continues their travel schedule on February 3, 2015 at McKendree Univeristy.
