ST. LOUIS – [WARNER BOX SCORE] [CLARKE BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team began play in the Molten Invitational, hosted by Grand View University, on Friday. After a 3-0 sweep of Warner University, the Spartans fell just a handful of points short from No. 4 Clarke University who dealt MBU a 3-0 loss.
No. 5 Missouri Baptist (4-2, 1-0 South) easily surpassed the Warner University Royals 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-20) in game one of the Molten Invitational. Led by the combination of outsides, Mico Janicijevic who led MBU with 18 points (14 kills, 2 service aces, and 2 solo blocks); Chris Flood, on the heels of Janicijevic, ended the match with 10 kills, 2 service aces, and 1 solo block for a combined 13 points.
Kevin Knight held a hitting percentage of .500 with 3 kills off of 6 attempts. Able to set new career highs was Josh Comer (7 digs) and Sean Benedict (7 total blocks).
In match two of the day, Missouri Baptist (4-3, 1-0 South) fell to No. 4 Clarke University three sets to none (22-25, 21-25, 23-25).
Flood led the Spartans with 15 kills and had an outstanding hitting percentage of .700 in the match with 15 kills out of 20 and was followed by Janicijevic with 11 kills. In sets one and two Kyle Foley racked up 29 assists and Benjamin Bravo contributed 9 assists in set three.
Set to face No. 9 Saint Ambrose University and Graceland University on Saturday, January 31, 2015, MBU will continue play in the Molten Invitational.
