BELLEVILLE, Ill. – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist women's basketball dug themselves an early hole on Thursday evening against Lindenwood University – Belleville and never recovered as they fell to the Lady Lynx 91-50 on the road.
Missouri Baptist (6-16, 6-12 AMC) was unable to keep pace with the LU-Belleville offense in the opening 20 minutes as the home team recorded 39 shots in the first half.
The Lady Lynx begin on a 9-2 run and jumped out to the early lead as the Spartans tried to find its groove on offense. MBU shot just 27 percent in the first half and went 0-9 from behind the arc.
As the Spartans struggled, the Lady Lynx did enough to maintain an 18-point, 40-22 lead heading into the half. LU-Belleville knocked-down five, three-pointers in the first half, two of which were from Kindra Brown.
The Spartans spent the first three minutes of the second half looking to get back in the game. MBU went on a 9-6 run early to cut the lead to 46-31. The Lady Lynx, however, owned the proceeding three minutes and continued their strong play under the bucket. LU-Belleville put together a 12-0 run in that time span and created a 58-31 in the blink of an eye.
Missouri Baptist was led by Cherish Walton. The sophomore posted 10 points on the night.
Stephanie Cathcart, on the other hand, led the Lady Lynx in the game. The two-sport athlete (volleyball) posted 25 points, which tied a cereer-high for the senior. Her previous season-high was last Saturday at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex against the Spartans in a 17-point effort.
Prior to the game, senior Shelby Kohrman was honored for hitting her 1,000th point earlier this season. The guard from Illinois completed the feat in just her second year with the team.
Missouri Baptist will continue its St. Louis area road swing on Saturday as it heads down I-64 to take-on the Harris-Stowe Hornets. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
