COUGARS STALL SPARTAN MOMETUM; HAND MBU HOME LOSS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist women's basketball committed 24 turnovers at home against the high-powered Columbia College offense in a 56-45 loss on Saturday.

Missouri Baptist (7-19, 7-15 AMC) once again put together a solid game in the first 13 minutes, but stalled in the final seven of the first half. Midway through the opening half, the Spartans shot 71 percent from the floor, led by Taylor Klingelhoefer. The Cougars, however, got right back in the game.

Columbia College went on a 14-1 run heading into the break led by Corri Hamilton. The junior from Fulton, Mo., posted six during that run and led the Cougars to a 32-24 lead.

The Spartans pushed the pace better in the second half, but were unable to overcome the deficit they sustained in the first. As Hamilton continued to heat-up, Caprese Marshall did the same. The duo combined for 30 of the Cougars' 56 points.

Though Missouri Baptist struggled offensively, the defense kept the Cougars off-balance all afternoon. Columbia College entered the game with an average of near 77 points per game, but the Spartans cut that short by nearly 20 points.

On the whole, Missouri Baptist shot 40 percent from the floor in the contest and just under 43 percent from three-point range. Columbia shot just 16 percent from the perimeter, a team that averages nearly 35 percent a game.

The Spartans have just two games remaining in the regular season before the American Midwest Conference Postseason Tournament. The team will travel to Stephens College on Thursday before heading home on Saturday for the final time in 2015 to face William Woods University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
