SPARTANS DOWN WILDCATS IN 3-0 SWEEP

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Thanks to a balanced attack, the Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team defeated the Culver-Stockton Wildcats on Tuesday night in a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-17) at home.

Set one was a battle at the start, but as MBU crept into the lead, the Wildcats came back to tie the score. Over the course of the set, the game was tied a total of 21 times, but the Spartans broke through toward the end. MBU took a four-point lead with Chris Flood at the service line, and closed the door soon after with a six-point, 25-19, win.

Spartans took the lead with Flood at the service line again in set two. The University of Louisville transfer started a four-point run with two service aces. Despite Culver-Stockton's attempts, Missouri Baptist came out on top with a 25-21 victory to take a 2-0 match lead.

Flood led the team once again in set three. The junior found himself at the service line once more as his team rattled-off five consecutive points. Though C-SC tied the game at 12 and again at 13, the Spartans held their ground to pull away as Mico Janicijevic led the team to six straight points from the service line.

The Spartans built themselves a solid seven point lead at the end before Shane Welch closed out the match with a kill from the right side.

Janicijevic led the Spartans with 10 kills as Welch trailed him with nine of his own from both the middle and the right side. Sean Benedict was also solid and ended the night with a .500 hitting percentage as he racked-up 6 kills on 12 swings with no errors. Flood ended his match with four service aces to lead both sides.

Freshman setter Kyle Foley had a big night at the net, and set a career-high of five total blocks. Josh Comer also set a career-high as he surpassed his previous high of eight digs. He posted 14 digs in the match.

Missouri Baptist will take the rest of the week to prepare for its next game against Missouri Valley on Tues., Feb. 10, 2015 in the second of a three-match homestand. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
