ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE LU] [BOX SCORE GVU] The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team split on day two of the Spartan Invitational with a win against Lourdes University (3-0) and a loss to Grand View (3-0). The Spartans were one of the top two teams with a 3-1 tournament record.
The Spartans started the day off strong with a three set win over Lourdes University after both teams headed into day two with a 2-0 record.
Mico Janicijevic and Chris Flood led MBU with 12 kills apiece in the win. Sean Benedict held an impressive hitting percentage of 0.563 with 8 kills off of 13 total attempts and only 1 error.
Missouri Baptist struggled to find their stride in the second game of the day. MBU found it hard to combat the Grand View attack with troubles at the service line. The Spartans averaged 12 kills a set, but the Vikings were still hot after a big win against Concordia University – Irvine earlier in the day.
The score went back and forth in set one with Grand View coming out on top 25-18.
Set two the Spartans showed they had something left to offer, but were unable to settle into a rhythm.
In set three the Vikings continued to hold the momentum from sets one and two and used it to their advantage to defeat the Spartans in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-19).
Mico Janicijevic led Missouri Baptist with 16 kills in the game. Chris Flood also contributed from the outside with seven kills of his own.
MBU will be traveling in all three matches scheduled next week. The Spartans will face Lindenwood – Belleville (March 23), Missouri Valley (March 24), and Culver Stockton (March 25).
