SENIOR NIGHT PRODUCES A WIN AGAINST HAWKS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team honored their four seniors in their final regular season home game with a 3-2 win against Quincy University on Monday evening.

Before the match got under way, there were four seniors that were honored: Kevin KnightAlex NavattoShane Welch, and Josh Williams.

After the Spartans suffered a loss the last time the teams met MBU looked to take the win from Quincy. The Spartans, however, were down early as the Hawks capitalized on a seven point lead to start things off. Through the first set MBU was unable to cut the deficit for a comeback.

The second set proved to be a different story as Missouri Baptist came out with the lead. Quincy came back in effort to take the set, but with Chris Flood toeing the service line the Spartans broke away to take the set 25-23.

The teams fought tooth and nail through the third set with several volleys before the deciding point. MBU got the upper hand however and closed the set 25-22.

The fourth set proved just how evenly matched the teams were as the teams stayed within a range of four points of each other with 10 ties in set four alone. The Hawks came out in the fourth set not willing to give in and robbed the Spartans of the fourth set with a final score of 25-22.

With another battle on their hands, Missouri Baptist put everything they had to come out with the win and held the Hawks to a 0 hitting percentage and only allowing four kills in the set. Sean Benedict stepped up to the service line on game point and closed out the game for the Spartans with an ace for a 16-14 victory.

Chris Flood lead Missouri Baptist with 20 kill as Mico Janicijevic was just one kill behind him at 19. Shane Welch posted an impressive hitting percentage of 0.413 with nine kills on 17 total attempts and only two errors. Robert Hall continues to set a new career high in digs and recorded 16 digs on the night.

MBU will now prepare to travel to rival No. 1 ranked Park University on Wednesday, April 1.
