SPARTANS COME TOGETHER IN WIN OVER EUTECTICS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team defeated American Midwest Conference opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-12) in a match dedicated to raise funds for thyroid cancer awareness in memory of Mike Brendel on Wednesday evening.

The Spartans (18-1, 6-0) cruised to a 25-7 set one win as set point came out of the middle off the hand of Jen Brendel. MBU notched its highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.556 and kept the Eutectics to a negative percentage. Ally Krus notched an impressive 17 assists in the set.

St. Louis College of Pharmacy was able to get back into the game in the second set and recorded a positive hitting percentage, but it wasn't enough to get past Missouri Baptist. The team notched the second set win of the night as Brendel led the way with five kills and one error off of six total attempts in the set for an attack percentage of 0.667. Krus was equally impressive and notched just four assists below her previous set total with 13.

MBU changed things up in the third set as Hailey TownsendShannon AlleyBree WhittingtonCatie Ward and Mary Grace Graf all got some court time. MBU again held the Eutectics to a negative hitting percentage and kept the momentum rolling through the third set to sweet St. Louis College of Pharmacy in three.

Brendel matched her career-high and led the Spartans with 14 kills on the night. The six foot junior recorded only two errors off of 22 attempts for a hitting percentage of 0.545. Hannah Carey followed Brendel with nine kills of her own. Krus notched an impressive 15 assists per set on the night.

This game was played in memory of Mike Brendel, father of Jen Brendel, who passed away earlier this year due to thyroid cancer. As many fans, staff, team members and several students wanted to show their support of the Brendel family, each donned specially made shirts to show that "no one fights alone."

The team held different events throughout the day such as a dunk booth, bake sale, and tailgate to help raise fund for thyroid cancer research. In between sets two and three, the Spartans presented a check of over $2,000 that was raised to go toward thyroid cancer research.

Missouri Baptist will be right back on the court tomorrow to face Lindenwood University – Belleville in the first Blue Out of the year.
