2015 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS OPEN SEASON IN STYLE

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team opened the season on their home court with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-9) sweep of Brooklyn College (N.Y.) on Thursday. 

The Spartans started off with some jitters in set one as the Bulldogs took an early lead. The team rebounded after a brief time out to take the set 25-19.

MBU came together in set two as the momentum shifted in the Spartans favor for a 25-8 set two win.

Missouri Baptist continued its advance on Brooklyn College in set three. The Spartans controlled the game and finished off the set 25-9 for a sweep of the Bulldogs.

Donald Fleming led MBU with six kills on the night. Fleming was followed closely by Patrick Gerstle with five kills of his own.

Setter Kyle Foley picked up right where he left off and recorded 27 total assists on the night for an average of 9 assists per set.

The Spartans now look to NCAA Division II opponent and former NAIA rival Lindenwood University (Mo.). The teams will take the court in St. Charles, Mo. January 19, at 7 p.m.
