ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] If there was any question as to why No. 16 Columbia College is undefeated this season, it was answered on Saturday. The Cougars got a career-high 42 points from Petrolina Chilaka and stormed past Missouri Baptist 89-54.
MBU (3-7, 2-5 AMC) could not get any type of momentum in the first half as Columbia punched-in three-pointer after three-pointer and extended the lead with an impressive display of perimeter shooting. The Cougars went 8-13 from behind the arc in the opening half and finished 50 percent for the game.
Though Missouri Baptist's offense got progressively better, throughout the game, it was Columbia that made a statement to National Coaches' Poll voters. Over half of Chilaka's 42 points came via the three-ball. She finished 8-10 from behind the arc and was a perfect 5-5 in the first half.
Also of note for the Cougars was the solid play from freshman Ashley Marlatt. The St. James, Mo., native posted 18 points in the game, the second highest of her short career.
Though the team's offense sputtered through the first half, Jerica Hawkins had another nice game, along with junior guard Angela Talley. Hawkins, one of the top scorers in the AMC, posted 21 in the game while Talley had her second consecutive game in double figures with 18 points.
Danna Jenkins tied a career high she set just 48 hours earlier for the Spartans. The Aurora, Colo., native recorded five assists once again.
Missouri Baptist will now head to Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) on Tuesday to take-on the Trojans as American Midwest Conference action presses-on. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
