ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] – The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team defeated No. 2 ranked Grand View University (Iowa) in straight sets (29-27, 25-21, 25-19) on the Spartan home court Saturday.
Set one was a battle for control with a match-high 20 total ties. MBU (3-0) pulled ahead to gain the momentum as the team notched its highest hitting percentage (0.450) and highest number of total kills in the set (20).
Set two the Vikings attempted to take a set away from the Spartans as they recorded their highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.391. But with strong swings from the service line and four aces in the set, the Spartans came out on top again.
Missouri Baptist retained the momentum from the first two sets and finished the match with a service ace from Chris Flood. MBU held the Vikings to their lowest hitting percentage of the match (0.077) and lowest number of kills in a set (9).
Mico Janicijevic led the Spartans with a season-high 16 kills. Flood followed Janicijevic with 13 kills of his own.
Sean Benedict recorded the highest hitting percentage on the team with a percentage of 0.636.
Kyle Foley fed the offense with 39 assists for an average of 13 assists per set. The sophomore also recorded four aces in the match.
Robert Hall kept the ball alive for MBU with a season-high 12 digs for an average of four digs per set.
Missouri Baptist will hit the road next week as the team will travel to McKendree University (Ill.) on January 27.
