ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] – The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team concluded the Molten Invitational with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20) sweep of No. 2 ranked Grand View (Iowa) on Saturday.
Set one was a fight for control resulting in several ties. The Spartans (7-0) pulled ahead at the right moment to take the set 25-20 and notched their highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.419.
MBU transferred that momentum from set one into the second set. Missouri Baptist maintained a decent lead throughout the set but the Vikings gained some ground at the end to bring the score within one point. The Spartans, however shut down Grand View's attempt to take the set and found themselves up two sets.
MBU held GVU to its lowest hitting percentage of the match at 0.042 as a result.
Missouri Baptist settled into a rhythm in set three and finished the match off with a 25-20 victory. The Spartans rolled through the final set as they recorded a hitting percentage 0.169 higher than that of the Vikings.
Grant Carder led the Spartans offense with 12 kills in the match followed closely by Mico Janicijevic who contributed 11 kills of his own.
Kyle Foley set the offensive pace with 31 total assists for an average of 10.3 assists per set.
Missouri Baptist was one of two teams that finished the invitational undefeated. Race Munger and Foley were also named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the invitational.
MBU will return to its home court on Monday, February 1, to face Missouri Valley College (Mo.).
