ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] After playing to a one-point overtime loss back in the beginning of December, Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball was hoping for a big win in front of a home crowd on Saturday. A disastrous second quarter, however, played a major role for the Spartans in a 69-47 loss.
Missouri Baptist (7-10, 6-8 AMC) put together an outstanding first quarter of play, something that it had struggled to do at times over the course of the season. Though the Spartans took the early lead, the Lady Lynx came cruising back led by Tiara Bramlett. A Junior Varsity player earlier this season, the sophomore has quickly made a name for herself and was averaging 15 points per game as of the start of Saturday's contest. The forward finished with 18 points
MBU trailed 21-17 after one quarter, but it was the second that told the story of the game. The Spartans posted just eight points in the second 10 minutes and were not able to regain the lead.
Rilea Huff, the shooting guard for Lindenwood-Belleville, was simply unstoppable from three-point range. The senior finished with 25 points and went 5-9 from beyond the arc.
The Spartans outscored the Lady Lynx in the third quarter 17-15, but were unable to carry the momentum over to the fourth.
Morgan Settle had another fine game for Missouri Baptist. The senior finished the game with 14 points and five blocks, a career high in that category.
MBU went 1-9 from three point rang on the day, but did record an impressive nine blocks in the game.
The Spartans will have two games on home court next week as they welcome the Lyon College (Ark.) Scots to the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
