Box Score ST. LOUIS - [BOX SCORE] On a night that Missouri Baptist hoped to deploy some of its less experienced players, it was returning All-American Mallory Dillon that became the story. On the verge of completing one of the most storied careers in program history, the outside hitter became the all-time leader in kills and led her team to a 3-0 sweep of Harris-Stowe (Mo.) in the process
Missouri Baptist (22-6, 9-0 AMC) extended its winning streak over American Midwest Conference opponents with an inspired effort by one of the NAIA's great talents. Dillon finished the night with 14 kills and an impressive .556 attack percentage. Heading into the evening, the senior needed just four kills to tie the record, previously set by Hannah Carey at 1,486. She hit that number in the first set and led the Spartans to a 25-11 first set win.
In the second set, it was more of Dillon as the St. Charles, Mo., native combined with a strong middle attack to win the second set. As a team, the Spartans recorded an attack percentage of .592 on the night.
Freshman phenom Cate Cigarini put together another big night for the visitors. The middle blocker ended the match with an efficient six kills on seven swings. Her partner out of the middle, Kristina Medanovic, also had another consistent evening with three kills on three swings. The native of Serbia currently leads the NAIA in Attack Percentage on the year with .429. Her perfect hitting percentage on the night was her first match of the season she finished at 1.000.
With the victory, the Spartans improved to a perfect 9-0 as the season continues to draw to its conclusion.
Missouri Baptist will have a short turn-around as the team will face non-conference opponent, Benedictine (Kan.) on Friday, October 14 in St. Louis. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
