ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] – The Missouri Baptist men's volleyball team defeated NCAA Division II Quincy University (Ill.) 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22) in the Carl & Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex on Tuesday.
The Hawks struck first blood in set one and went on to post their highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.333. Quincy held its lead and took the set from the Spartans (11-0, 1-0) 25-23.
Despite a slow start to the match, MBU came to life in set two. Missouri Baptist went on a 6-2 run to start the set off and maintained that lead throughout the entirety of the set. MBU held the Hawks to their lowest total of kills at five compared to the Spartans 14.
Missouri Baptist continued to gain momentum as the team easily took set three and held Quincy to its lowest hitting percentage of the night at 0.100.
With eight scoring ties in set four, the Hawks fought to stay alive. The Spartans, however, remained in control as they recorded their highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.469.
Mico Janicijevic led the Spartan offense with a new season-high of 23 kills.
Kyle Foley recorded a total of 47 assists on the night for an outstanding average of 11.75 assists per set.
Missouri Baptist will have the rest of the week to prepare for its second Midwest Conference match-up at Hannibal LaGrange (Mo.) on Tuesday, February 16.
