ST. LOUIS - Missouri Baptist University is in search of their first victory of the new season as they head to Arkansas to take on Philander Smith after a week break.

The Spartans and the Panthers have never played against each other in the past, and the Panthers come into their first home game with a 4-0 record.

Missouri Baptist is 0-1 following a loss at home against Clarke University. The game featured a handful of new faces, and lots of moments to look forward to.

Mariana Cubero was a bright spot for the Spartans in their season opener as she pulled down 12 rebounds, forced some turnovers, and knocked down a pair of triples in 35 minutes of action.

Kayleigh Winch and Audrey Payne picked up some huge minutes for Missouri Baptist as they scored 14 and seven, respectively.

Despite the 11 point loss the Spartans held control of the game for a large margin of it, but they were unable to close the game as the Pride went on a 20-3 run and played stifling defense keeping MBU away from the basket.
