KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second time this season, Missouri Baptist University sophomore
Veljko Culibrk has garnered national recognition for his defensive performances. On Tuesday, the National Office announced Culibrk as NAIA Defender of the Week, along with Saint Xavier University's Jan Lopuch and Christian Oviedo, named NAIA Attacker and Setter of the Week.
The Spartans' middle blocker was also crowned Heart of America and NAIA Defender of the Week on February 27, following a career night at home against Park with 13 blocks and five service aces.
Culibrk continues to solidify himself as one of the top blockers in the conference and country. His performances this past week included two blocks and an ace in a sweep of Graceland and four blocks, three digs, and an ace in a 3-1 loss to No. 5 William Penn. He saved the best for last on Saturday, recording seven blocks and a crucial ace to end Set 3 in a critical victory over No. 4 Grand View. Culibrk helped lead the Spartans to their fourth Top-15 win in eight matches.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Novi Sad, Serbia sophomore ranks first in the Heart of America and third nationally in blocks per set. On Monday, Culibrk was named Heart Defender of the Week.
