ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's volleyball travels to Iowa for two Heart of America Athletic Conference contests against William Penn University on March 20 at 7 p.m. and Grand View University on March 21 at 1 p.m.
The Spartans are coming off an impressive week, sweeping Kansas Wesleyan University, rallying for a reverse sweep over conference foe Ottawa University, and sweeping the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy on Tuesday night.
Setter
Axel Griguer produced a total of 78 assists, while
Luka Stepanovic took advantage, tallying 27 kills.
AJ Tufuga ended the weekend with six aces, while libero
Cruse Aea held down the defensive end with 39 digs, and Tufuga shut down the attacks with eight blocks.
William Penn University
The Statesmen enter the weekend at fourth in the Heart and have a record of 9-4. Ben Cemeno-Castillo leads the offense with 3.80 kills per set, while libero Joao Gabriel Filippelli averages 2.96 digs per set.
This will be the first face-off between the teams this year. Their last matchup was on March 21, 2025. MBU took the win in a 3-1 match, losing only the third set. Since 2021, the two have met nine times, with MBU winning five.
Grand View University
Grand View enters the week seventh in the conference standings with a 7-5 record. Â Andre Leandro leads the Vikings with 4.29 kills per set, and Joshua Valencia leads with 2.59 digs per set.
On April 19, 2025, the Vikings beat the Spartans in four sets for the Heart of America Tournament Championship. Since 2012, the Spartans have had a 13-18 overall record against GVU and have won five out of the last seven matches since 2022.
