To this day, Lawrence Olum is the most decorated athlete in MBU Men’s Soccer program history. He was a two NAIA All-American in 2003 and 2006, a four-time All-AMC First Team selection, and Academic All-AMC. In 2005, Olum was a key contributor to a Spartan team that won its first-ever American Midwest Conference title, an NAIA Region V Tournament championship, the highest NAIA ranking in program history at No. 12, and an undefeated record in AMC play with just five goals allowed.

Since his time at MBU, Olum has played professionally in the United Soccer League (USL), MLS, and internationally with the Kenya National Team in 2012 and 2014. In total, Lawrence played eight seasons in the MLS between Sporting Kansas City (2011-14, 2016), the Portland Timbers (2017-18), and Minnesota United (2019). He played in nearly 150 MLS games with 102 starts to his name.

In 2017, he started the Lawrence Olum Foundation to use education and sports to help children in Kenya achieve a “moment” like his, supporting students through scholarships and other means to get them in front of coaches – https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-united-s-lawrence-olum-helps-make-moments-for-kenyan-youth/511655082/.

Olum completed his coursework in December 2019 and graduated with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Applied Management.
